REMARKETING VERSES RETARGETING

Updated: Aug 7

Remarketing focuses on re-engaging existing customers, primarily through email campaigns or paid ads. It targets individuals who have already interacted with your business, allowing for more specific upselling and personalized messaging. This strategy helps to nurture leads, drive repeat business, and enhance customer loyalty by offering tailored content and offers based on previous interactions. This is not to be confused with cold emailing and you need to follow anti-spam laws.

It involves sending targeted emails to customers who have previously interacted with your website or business.

How It Works

  • Collect email addresses through sign-ups, purchases, or contact forms.

  • Segment the email list based on behavior (e.g., abandoned carts, past purchases).

  • Send personalized emails with special offers, reminders, or content to encourage re-engagement or conversion.

Benefits

  • Direct communication with potential customers.

  • Highly personalized content and offers.

  • Effective for nurturing leads and driving repeat business.

  • Campaigns are more successful than without remarketing

Examples

  • Sending an email to someone who added items to their cart but didn't complete the purchase.

  • Newsletters with special discounts for previous customers.

To effectively re-engage potential customers, you need an email list preferably generated through client interaction after the awareness phase. This list should include potential purchasers or clients ready to repurchase, allowing for targeted messaging with special offers for select clients or interested parties.

Next, you need an email CRM platform to manage your lists, create personalized emails, and capture analytics. Your email list should be in a CSV or Excel file format for easy import into any CRM. The file should include fields for at least the first name, last name, and email address.

  1. I have used Constant Contact for years; it is user-friendly, feature-rich, and has great tech support. However, we parted ways because it is quite expensive.

  2. I currently use HubSpot, but I wouldn't recommend it due to its focus on upselling and its expensive pricing structure with strict annual contracts.

  3. If you use a web builder like Wix, CRM, and email features are usually included for a small fee.

Consider engaging with a CRM during a free trial to see what it offers.

You will also need to determine a special or unique offer for your email list recipients. This offer could be seasonal, related to holidays or annual events, or a new product introduction.

There are many tutorials online to help you craft an email. The email should not be lengthly, but to the point. Feel free to reach out for advice if you need it.
